George S. Rempel was born July 11, 1895 near Steinbach Manitoba. Rempel was a teacher and minister. He received his elementary and high school education in Steinbach then went on to attend Bible school and teachers college. In 1909 Rempel was baptized in the Bruderthaler (Evangelical Mennonite Brethern) Church by Rev. Peter B. Schmidt. Rempel married Helena Schultz on June 2,1918. Their marriage produced two sons, two daughters and two daughters who died as children. Rempel began his 29 year teaching career in a one room school in Riverbank, Saskatchewan. He also taught in Laird, Dalmeny, Osler, Mitchell, Bristol and Lister. During his years as a teacher Rempel also became very active in the church serving in various capacities including Sunday School teacher, superintendent and choir leader. He was ordained in August 1937 at Dalmeny (E.M.B.) Church by Rev. H. P. Schultz. Rempel was assistant Pastor at the E.M.B. church in Langham, Saskatchewan between 1942-1960. But the highlight of his years of ministry were felt when he served at Grace Church in Steinbach Manitoba from 1961 to 1967. He is remembered for his visitation ministry which was a blessing to many. Rempel served for a short time at Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, Minnesota but soon returned to Steinbach due to health problems. It was there that he died April 9, 1969.
This fonds consists of 15 small black notebooks of sermons written between 1948 and 1965. Many of them also include the dates and locations where the sermon was preached.
